In this lesson, you will learn to play “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love.” Composed by Jimmy McHugh, this tune became a jazz standard through Louis Armstrong’s interpretation in 1928. Ten years later, Django Reinhardt brought this song into the realm of gypsy swing music as well.
I chose this tune because of its “simplicity” (but don’t underestimate it!), making it an excellent starting point for all basic-level players to understand some fundamentals.
Update: This lesson now includes an intermediate solo with a more bluesy approach, inspired by our YouTube version with Olli Soikkeli. It’s a nice solo to explore and expand your skills with this color – don’t miss it!
